RFID inventory robot TORY at RFID Journal LIVE! 2017

For the second year in a row, MetraLabs is presenting their RFID inventory robot TORY at RFID Journal LIVE! 2017. The world’s largest and most important event focused on radio frequency identification and related technologies will be held in Phoenix, Ariz., on May 9-11, and will feature more than 50 end-user case studies and 75 hours of education. MetraLabs will be located at booth 924.

TORY is the first RFID inventory robot in continuous life operation worldwide. Over a year ago, the first TORY was installed in a store of the German fashion retailer Adler Modemärkte AG in Erfurt, Germany. Soon, ADLER extended the use of TORY to further stores. All have driven more than 1000 miles already. Roland Leitz, General Manager and Head of IT, Adler Modemärkte AG states: “Thanks to TORY we can track our stocks precisely and realize our orders at an early stage. TORY improves our planning significantly and saves us time and money.”

MetraLabs continuously refines their robots. Currently, TORY is used for autonomous inventory via UHF-RFID. Besides, TORY serves as shopping-assistant by guiding customers to articles they are looking for. In the future, TORY will be taking over even more tasks in retail. MetraLabs is developing new applications, e.g. speech recognition and synthesis for intuitive customer interaction, planogram management, floor cleaning and transportation of goods. “Mobile service robots commenced to earn their position in retail. Close-partnered with our customers we compose well matching and reliable robotic solutions based on TORY.” says Dr. Johannes Trabert, Co-Founder and Managing Director at MetraLabs. Especially for small stores, MetraLabs offers a light version of the conventional TORY: By using TORY to go it will be possible to speed up manual stocktaking and to reach higher reading accuracy.

However, TORY is developed not only for retail but for various applications. Wherever RFID technology is used, e.g. in libraries, logistic centers or warehouses, RFID robot TORY will speed up significantly inventory processes and make them more efficient. Take your chance and get to know TORY in person at RFID Journal LIVE! 2017. We are looking forward to your visit!

About MetraLabs

MetraLabs is an expert in mobile robotics with long-term experience. In 2007, the company released the first interactive shopping-robot onto the market, developed in cooperation with the Neuroinformatics and Cognitive Robotics Lab of Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany. The robot won the Thuringian state research award. Since then, more than 250 robots have been realized in different applications all over the world.  All together they have gained more than 70.000 km (43.500 mi) of driving experience. MetraLabs has realized a lot of different applications for service robots, e.g. in retail, restaurants, residential care homes, museums, shopping malls, clean rooms and industry. The robots interact and communicate with humans and move completely autonomously and securely even in dynamic environments thanks to MetraLabs’ proven navigation software. Looking towards the future, MetraLabs is developing further applications in the field of mobile service robots.
