Thoughts on Wi-Fi based RFID Solutions

What will 2010 have in store for RFID?

I was extremely busy last year in spite of the challenging economic conditions we faced in 2009.  It looks like 2010 is off to a fast start with a high level of interst and funds flowing based upon new budgets being available since the beginning of the year.

Many times RFID projects get delayed as they were un-funded projects that needed to wait for the next budget cycle to get approved.  Senior level executive sponsorship is needed and executive education in order convey the value that an RTLS solution can provide.

As AeroScout's solution leverages the existing investment made to deploy Wi-Fi, I really enjoyed reading Mark Roberti's recent article entitled "Do You Really Need to Justify Your RFID Investment?".  Like cell phones, internet access and laptops... we will get to a point where no company can imagine doing business without an asset locator system that is based on RFID technology.

It looks to me like 2010 will be a big growth year...  What are your thoughts?

Andy, The early adopters have clearly proved that RFID can deliver significant benefits. It's not clear how fast the fast followers will follow -- if you follow me -- but I see signs that the broader market accept that RFID works and delivers business benefits. Now, it's just a question of when they will invest. Mark Roberti Editor RFID Journal
